• CMB Speech Pathology provides comprehensive speech pathology assessment and screening services as part of our family, kindergarten and school based packages.

Getting to know you and your child is the first step in building a strong therapeutic relationship. This is best achieved through an initial consultation and by conducting a comprehensive assessment of your child’s communication skills related to your areas of concern.

Information collected through initial consultation and assessment will then be thoroughly analysed and interpreted and an appropriate therapy and/or management plan will be created.

For more information regarding the assessment process, as well as information related to our kindergarten and school screening services, please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of our website.

  • At CMB Speech Pathology, we offer one-to-one, personalised support plans that aim to address the individual and functional communication needs of each child and family.

We know that family life can be busy. We also know that as parents and carers, you are often best placed to support children’s communication development in meaningful ways outside of the therapy session.

With this in mind, we aim to focus on developing and implementing strategies that will help to enhance your child’s communication skills across many different contexts, not just during the speech pathology sessions.

We will work closely with you to develop a best-fit support plan that may include home-based strategies tailored to yours and your child’s specific needs and circumstances.

  • Our services extend to kindergarten and school educators supporting students with additional needs in communication at whole class (tier 1), small group (tier 2) and 1:1 (tier 3) levels.

Orofacial Myology

Orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) is a professional discipline that assesses and supports oral and facial function, posture, and habits that may affect dental, facial, feeding and speech development.

OMT uses targeted exercises and practical strategies to improve muscle coordination and build awareness of how the mouth and tongue move during everyday activities.

At CMB Speech Pathology, we have completed advanced training in OMT and provide tailored assessment and therapy for children who may benefit from this approach.

Speech Production

Speech sound production focuses on how children learn to say sounds clearly and be understood by others.

Some children may have difficulty producing certain sounds (articulation), using patterns that simplify speech (phonological patterns), or, shpw motor planning difficulties, such as Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). These differences can impact speech clarity, consistency, and a child’s overall ability to be understood in everyday communication.

Speech therapy uses evidence-based approaches to support children to learn, practise and generalise accurate and consistent speech.

CMB Speech Pathology provides tailored support for speech sound production, including support with articulation, phonological disorders and motor speech disorders.

Stuttering (also known as a fluency difference) refers to how smoothly speech flows. Some children may experience repetitions, prolongations, or blocks when speaking, which can vary depending on the situation and communication demands.

CMB Speech Pathology’s stuttering support is individualised and focuses on building confidence, reducing communication pressure, and supporting children to communicate in ways that feel comfortable and effective. Support may include strategies to facilitate smoother speech, as well as tools to navigate speaking in different environments such as home and school.

CMB Speech Pathology offers experienced stuttering support for children across the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, offering both in-person and Telehealth speech pathology services. We support children who stutter to develop confidence, self-advocacy skills, and positive communication experiences, with therapy tailored to each child’s goals.

Stuttering

Oral and written language is a core area of speech pathology that supports how children understand and use language for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This includes skills such as vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension, storytelling and written expression.

Some children may experience language differences and difficulties that impact following directions, answering questions, organising ideas, finding the right words, and/or, understanding & producing written text

These challenges can affect participation in classroom learning and everyday communication.

CMB Speech Pathology provides individualised assessment and therapy for oral and written language, including Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), across the Sunshine Coast. We support children to build skills for learning, communication, and participation at school and beyond.

Language

Literacy refers to the skills involved in reading, writing, accessing and understanding written language.

Some children may experience differences in learning to read and write, including difficulties linking sounds to letters, blending and segmenting words, reading accurately and fluently, or expressing ideas in writing. These challenges can impact confidence, learning and participation.

CMB Speech Pathology provides evidence-informed, 1:1 support for literacy learning. Therapy may include explicit teaching of sound-spelling relationships, phonological awareness, decoding strategies, spelling patterns, and building reading fluency and comprehension. Support is individualised, with a focus on meaningful, functional outcomes.

Social Communication

Social communication supports how children use language to connect, interact, and participate in everday situations.

Children communicate in many different ways, and social communication differences are a natural part of neurodiversity. Some children may benefit from support to help them navigate conversations, social interactions, or social ‘expectations’ in ways that feel comfortable and authentic to them.

Social communication support aims to be neurodiversity-affirming and focused on building understanding and self-advocacy rather than changing who a child is. Support may include exploring different communication preferences, developing strategies to support participation across contexts, and supporting children to make choices about how they engage with others.

CMB Speech Pathology aims to empower individuals and help them recognise their own unique communication preferences and strengths to help them connect with the world in ways that work best for them.
